What is Scarlet Pro RF, and how does it work?+
Scarlet Pro RF is radiofrequency microneedling. A handpiece of ultra-fine needles delivers a very short pulse of RF energy just beneath the surface of the skin. The warmth prompts the skin to rebuild its own collagen and elastin, which is what firms, smooths and lifts over the months that follow. The short pulse, under a third of a second, is the reason the treatment is comfortable and the downtime is so brief.
What does it treat?+
Skin laxity and lifting on the face, neck, jawline and body; texture, pores and photo-aging; acne scarring and stretch marks; and, with a lighter setting, the scalp as part of a hair-support plan. Scarlet has also been studied for redness conditions such as rosacea and for active acne. Which of these it can do for you is decided in your consultation.
Does it hurt?+
Very little. We numb the area with a topical cream for about half an hour first. Most people describe the treatment itself as light pressure and a sense of warmth. There is little to no bleeding, and no sensitivity of the kind some older microneedling devices cause.
How long does a session take?+
About twenty minutes for the face and ten for the neck, plus the numbing time beforehand. A body area depends on its size. Plan on roughly an hour in the studio for a face treatment.
How many sessions will I need, and how far apart?+
Most people see a change from a single session. For skin rejuvenation we usually recommend a series of three, spaced about four to six weeks apart so the skin has time to build new collagen between visits. Scarring and stretch marks often take a longer series; we set that in your plan.
Is there downtime? What should I do afterwards?+
Little to none. Expect some pinkness and mild warmth, like a light sunburn, that settles within a day and occasionally up to three. Most people go straight back to their day. For the first 24 hours: no makeup, no heavy exercise or heat, and only gentle cleanser and moisturiser. Sunscreen every day after. Hold your retinoids and exfoliating acids for a few days, then resume.
Is it safe for my skin tone?+
Yes. Scarlet Pro RF is used on all skin types, including deeper skin tones. It works with electrical energy rather than light, so it does not target pigment the way many lasers do, and the risk of post-treatment darkening is very low.
When will I see results, and how long do they last?+
Some tightening is visible right away. The deeper change, as new collagen and elastin form, builds gradually over two to three months. After a series, results are generally described as lasting six months to a year, depending on your skin and how it ages. A single maintenance session once or twice a year keeps things where you want them.
How does Scarlet compare to Morpheus8?+
They are the same family of treatment, RF microneedling, tuned differently. Scarlet uses very short RF pulses through fine, non-insulated needles at a shallower depth, which is why it is comfortable, quick, and back-to-normal within a day. Morpheus8 reaches deeper, into the fat layer, and is chosen for heavier subdermal work, at the cost of several days of redness and swelling. For facial texture, tightening, scarring and comfort on all skin tones, we find Scarlet the better fit, which is why we chose it.
Who should not have Scarlet Pro RF?+
As with any RF microneedling, we do not treat during pregnancy, over active skin infections or open lesions, or where there is an implanted electrical device such as a pacemaker. Recent isotretinoin use, a history of keloid scarring and certain medical conditions also need review. All of this is covered in your consultation before anything is scheduled.
